How we work
Greenfield Solar is an introduction service. Investors who want exposure to Italian greenfield solar, agrivoltaic and storage projects are put in direct contact with the Italian firms that can start, develop and build them. We do not develop projects ourselves, and we say so on the first call rather than the fifth.
What the service is, and what it is not
The Italian market rewards people who know which door to knock on. That is the part we cover. Everything downstream of the introduction is carried out by qualified Italian professionals, under their own responsibility.
What we do
- Establish what you are looking for: technology, size, region, and how much of the development risk you intend to carry.
- Identify Italian professional firms able to support the project through start-up, development and construction.
- Set up the introduction and frame the first conversation, in English, so that nothing is lost between the two sides.
- Keep the material anonymised until confidentiality is settled between the parties.
What we do not do
- We do not act as an investment adviser, and we do not place, sell or promote financial instruments of any kind.
- We do not carry out engineering, legal, authorisation or construction work. Those are the firms’ mandates, not ours.
- We do not present a project as further along than its documents show.
- We do not publish project names, cadastral references or counterparties on this website.
The sequence
Five steps. The middle three exist to protect the parties on both sides of the table, and none of them is skipped to speed things up.
The introduction is the last step, not the first. Everything before it exists so that both sides know what they are talking about when it happens.
First conversation
You tell us the technology, the size, the regions you would consider, and whether you want to start from raw land or step into a project already under way. Both routes are workable.
Confidentiality
Where the material calls for it, a non-disclosure agreement is put in place before names, locations or counterparties are exchanged. Whether one is needed, and in what form, is assessed case by case rather than imposed as a formality.
Anonymised teaser
You receive the items needed to form a first judgement on the opportunity, without anything that would identify the site or the parties involved.
Site file
On a greenfield project the substance is the land and the connection. The file is built on the land registry extract, the town-planning certificate and the distances involved, and it grows as the appointed professionals add to it.
Introduction
You are put in direct contact with the Italian firms that would carry the work. From that point the relationship, the scope and the terms are theirs and yours.
What a greenfield file is built on
A greenfield site is not a project yet. At first review there are only a few things worth looking at, and they decide everything that follows.
- The land. What it is, how it is classified, and on what basis it would be made available.
- The distance to the connection point. On a greenfield site this is the single figure that most often decides whether the rest is worth pursuing.
- The technology the site suits. Ground-mount photovoltaic, agrivoltaic or battery storage are not interchangeable on the same piece of land.
- The size. Below roughly 1 MW the cost of doing the work properly stops making sense for an institutional counterparty.
- The paperwork behind both. Land registry extract (visura catastale), town-planning certificate (certificato di destinazione urbanistica) and measured distances are on file before anyone is asked to form a view.

Questions we are asked first
Do you develop the projects yourselves?
No. We are a consultancy: we connect investors with the Italian professional firms that carry out the work. The technical, legal and authorisation activity is theirs, under their own responsibility and their own engagement terms.
What is the smallest project you would look at?
Around 1 MW, for photovoltaic, agrivoltaic and battery storage alike. Below that the professional cost of doing the work properly is hard to justify for an institutional counterparty.
Can you work on a project that is already under development?
Yes. The professionals we introduce handle both situations: a site taken from raw land, and a project already under way that needs to be picked up and carried forward.
Is a non-disclosure agreement always required?
Not automatically. It depends on what is being shared and with whom, and it is agreed between the parties before anything identifying is exchanged.
How long does a project take?
It varies, and anyone quoting you a single figure before seeing the site is guessing. The timeline depends on the land, the connection point and the authorisation route that applies to the size and location of the project.
